Across our neighborhoods, creative communities, and cultural institutions, entrepreneurs, artists, producers, and residents are already imagining extraordinary ways to bring people together and shape the future of the Minneapolis. The civic energy is here. The ideas are here. What's been missing is a clear path to bring them to life.
That’s where the Minneapolis Activation Lab comes in. We are a coordinated platform designed to help promising ideas move from concept to activation by connecting creators with the partnerships, spaces, sponsors, institutions, and operational support needed to bring projects to life. We exist to reduce friction, unlock collaboration, and help more ideas become visible, repeatable, and impactful experiences in Minneapolis.
Importantly, we are not here to control or curate the city from above. Minneapolis is powered by countless individuals and organizations already doing meaningful work. We simply aim to support the ideas we are uniquely positioned to help move forward and to create more connective tissue between the people who want to make things happen.
We are especially interested in projects that amplify the narratives that already live here and build on the foundational pillars of Minneapolis: our natural beauty and seasons, music and arts scenes, entrepreneurial spirit, and the many cultures, cuisines, traditions, and communities that shape the identity of this city.
That could mean:
A small public installation that surprises and delights passersby
A recurring neighborhood gathering or performance series
A seasonal winter or summer activation
A public art or storytelling project
A cultural food experience or market
A citywide festival concept
A new tradition Minneapolis could become known for
Some ideas may be intimate and hyperlocal. Others may have the potential to put Minneapolis on a national or even global stage.
Our First Open Call for Ideas
Today, we’re opening our first public call for ideas.
We’re inviting capable producers, artists, organizers, entrepreneurs, cultural leaders, nonprofits, community groups, and creative teams to submit ideas for experiences, activations, gatherings, and public-facing projects that help animate Minneapolis.
Selected ideas may receive support through:
Strategic guidance and development
Connections to venues and spaces
Introductions to potential sponsors or partners
Marketing and storytelling support
Production and operational guidance
Navigation of city processes and permitting
Connections to aligned institutions and collaborators
Creators retain ownership and creative leadership of their ideas. Our role is to help open doors, connect dots, and create pathways to activation.
